0.8.12 released

Today version 0.8.12, a maintenance-release, has been released. It only contains fixes for Windows so this is a Windows-only release.

This release strongly improves network bandwidth detection. It's recommended to upgrade immediately.

Changes:
- Improved network bandwidth detection, fixes too high bandwidth usage
- Improved wireless detection under Windows XP

Fixes:
- Fixed inaccurate network bandwidth when enabling/disabling network-adaptors

Hi

I noticed the new version was up and installed it. But I think somethings wrong with my network values... :p

what's the problem? looks ok to me, your just a serious bandwidth hog.

I don't know, 26 terrabyte per second seems a bit high :p

Your download/upload, is it continuously high? Varies it?

I don't have Windows Vista here but my tests under Windows 7 are still succeeding :(

Yea, the values are always in those TB ranges... I have no idea why.

I didn't think I was that much of a bandwidth hog. lol :)

Neogen: Could you download a test-application and run it for me? Download it, place it in the Deimos-directory, download something and run the test-application for a few seconds. Then copy-past the output of it (Edit -> Select all, then rightmouse button at the text, it will copy it)

You may post the output here or email it to me.

I improved the code and also the output will show me if it's another bug in Windows.

Hi

I ran that test app and it kept on pumping out text like crazy every second. :)

Here's a piece of it that I managed to save to a text file while it ran:

Taking a little peek at it, it seems I have some pretty awesome download speeds :p hehe
"Calculated downloaded: 9223372036854775808 bytes/sec"

EDIT: I hope this isn't due to some kind of accumulation bug in windows, because I'm going for an uptime record of 55 days already without rebooting, and I need to keep it up one more month to break liuqyn's uptime record. :p

I think these odd values are leaking to my stats on the website already...

Total download: 261797.95 GB
Total upload: 251337.82 GB

That above means I've uploaded and downloaded over 250 Terabytes worth of data, right? :) I should have my own dedicated backbone here at home. ;)

NeoGen: It seems that Windows returns multiple entries for the same network-interface which conflicts things. Nevertheless, it should be fixed now.
Could you try out deimos-network-test7.exe to confirm this? If it works, I will release a new Deimos.

The "Calculated downloaded:" will tell the speed :)

Hi

Strangely, this test app didn't show anything on the console... I waited the whole time during the 100Mb file download and still only got these few lines of text on the console

[01:15:09] Deimos Service 0.8.12 has been started
[01:15:09] realtimestats.bin has been loaded
[01:15:09] Using GetIfTable2Ex
[01:15:09] Desktop statistics have been disabled
[01:20:11] Autosaving realtimestats.bin

I tried the procedure three times, but wasn't able to get any reaction from the test app. :(

EDIT: I wonder if that problem of the multiple entries for the same Network card is because it's an USB wireless receiver... because many times when I simply change something from one USB port to another it makes me reinstall drivers and all that.

Too bad removing network bandwidth statistics does not count as a bugfix ;)

I have forced it to only accept hardware network-adaptors, maybe it does not see the USB adaptor as a hardware-adaptor. I have a wireless USB adaptor lying here, I will do some tests with it.

UPDATE: My wireless USB (Netgear WG111V2) simply works. Another option is that Windows Vista has bugs and is reporting something different then Windows 7

I have installed Windows Vista and there is a bug for USB-network devices. It seems that Windows Vista doesn't recognize it as a hardware interface. deimos-network-test10.exe should do the trick for you. It works here in Windows 7/Vista with USB wireless and normal wireless.

UPDATE: I uploaded a new version, try it.

I think it's working great now. I tested the new test app and it seemed ok now, here's a piece of it's log:

I also tested the new 0.8.12 and it's working great now, measuring the speed correctly I believe :)

I guess the "Today" values will reset at midnight, but is there anything that can be done to the totals? If anyone looks at my stats they'll say I'm a cheater. :p

Good! That was one nasty bug. Damn you Windows Vista!

You can reset everything by deleting realtimestats.bin in your C:/Program Files/Deimos/.deimos-service. Don't forget stopping the service first. (Start -> Run -> 'services.msc')

If you want, I can also remove your network-stats at the website since 20 july

I've deleted the realtimestats file, it worked.
Please do rewind my stats back to the 20th, that way this crazy bug will be over and done with. :)

I also think I don't deserve the Bandwidth Hog achievement. I must have "earned" it through the bugs, because I don't think I've ever downloaded 100Gb in a month even, let alone in a day. :p
