0.8.20, a new major release

A new major release, 0.8.20, is now available. This release has many new changes, many internal, a few external. In fact, this release has so many changes, it just had to be released.

In short the following new features have been added:

    - Added CPU- and memory-usage statistics
    - Added number of boots statistics
    - Greatly improved hardware detection
    - Improved interface

However, that is the really short version. A few more highlights:

    - Realtime CPU and memory statistics have been added, which is ideal when monitoring external computers

    Better hardware detection
    - The number of physical processors & cores is now detected.
    - Videocard detection in Linux is greatly improved and now on par with Windows.
    - All networkcards and harddisks are now also shown.

Interface has got a few updates:
    - The deimos logo now identifies the application.
    - Resizing now works good.
    - All hardware information in one tab.

A lot of fixes are also done. For more information see the changelog

Due the many new statistics this new application brings, the website will receive a few major updates in the coming weeks.

I got it. 0.8.20 (Windows x64) :)

Gave me a little scare the first time I run it, it said there was no "bonjour" thing running, but I just wrote down "localhost" on the server field and it started working great.

My harddisk field is empty though, but I bet it's because I have an onboard RAID system, and I'm running two hard drives in RAID 1 mode. :)
All other hardware details are there, down to the exact motherboard make and model.

That is correct, I assume there is a hard disk at the computer, not RAID (also, it's not possible to get the hard disk names when using RAID)

Also I can confirm that Bonjour does not seem to install at Windows Vista SP2. Not my fault but I will look into this.

So far I've installed this on 3 machines. It looks very good but one of the machines is showing that I've downloaded 8388608.02 TB !! Other than that it all looks O.K.

Pete

I have 3 hard drives but they're all connected to the same onboard RAID controller. 2x 160Gb in RAID 1 for System and apps, and 1x1Tb as a single drive for the rest of the stuff. Here's a pic from the AMD RAIDXpert application showing it

http://neogen.amdusers.com/deimos4.png

I also have an external HDD, Western Digital MyBook 500GB, that one is connected by USB, doesn't even show there.

If my HDD's were not in a raid controller, would it appear a list of them on Deimos?

@350Z: Yes, this is a leftover from version before 0.8.13. You can delete realtimestats.bin in the deimos directory to reset the statistics.

@NeoGen:
No, only "permanent" hard disks are shown.

If the AMD's RaidXpert application is able to retrieve hard disk names from RAID, I also should be able to... I will look into it.

I'm going to have to reinstall 0.8.20 again... something must have gone wrong, maybe I should have uninstalled the old version first, because when I reboot I get 2 instances of the interface, which after a bit both get closed because the service stops unexpectedly.

But then I start the service and start the interface and they both work ok.

After uninstall / reinstall I now have a different problem... seems that the service is running ok now but the interface shuts down as soon as I double click on the system tray icon. No matter how many times I start it and double click the icon, it just flashes the window for a brief second and closes.

The log file in the deimos-ui folder in my user doesn't show much

[23-08-2009 23:09:04] Connecting with host localhost:39690...
[23-08-2009 23:09:05] Got connection with service!

Will deleting that file mean I will lose all the stats for that machine, or will it synchronise with the server?

Thanks,

Pete

@Neogen: Please download this version and test it? If it crashes, it will generate a deimos-xxx.dmp file in C:\Program Files\deimos. Send me that file and I will be able to figure out why it crashes.

@350Z: Yes, it will delete the shown statistics in the application. Everything at the website or going to the website is safe.

The problem still continues even with this new test version, I stop-started the service and tried the interface several times because I think it didn't create a dmp file on the program folder or anywhere around it.
But here's what I found on the logs of the deimos service (.deimos-service folder)

[26-08-2009 14:20:04] Deimos Service 0.8.20 (64 bit) has been started at BASIC-ONE

and on the deimos-ui folder in my user

.. See below ...

Thanks to Vaber, I have found a possible cause. Please try redownloading 0.8.20

It is not reproducible on any of my computers or virtual machines so I can't confirm anything.
